Travel allows us to see the world and gain important new perspectives and experiences. When we travel we learn to love and care about places and people that we might not have ever really thought about before. However, often travel can have a negative impact on these places and people we grow to love through the fossil fuels used in transportation and the materials we buy for trips. Traveling the the US Servas 2021 Conference, most people will likely have to fly, take private vehicles, or public transportation at the very least. The good news is there are plenty of ways to minimize the impact we have on the environment while still getting out there to see the world!
Eco-Friendly Conference/Travel Tips
- If you’re flying, there are several ways to reduce your impact: try to only book direct flights or if possible buy carbon offsets to neutralize the fossil fuels produced by your air travel.
- Bring a reusable water bottle. By doing so, you always have water with you, you save money by not having to buy water, and you avoid creating harmful plastic waste!
- Bring your own your own food when you travel! Not only is is tastier and probably healthier, but you also save money and produce less waste than you would by purchasing overly packaged snacks.
- Lastly, make sure to turn off and unplug all appliances as well as turn down or off heat/air conditioning before you leave home. This tip saves money and energy!
